Single Review: The Chevin – ‘Drive’
2 min readThe Chevin are a brand new Yorkshire quartet who are steadily on their way to conquering the world of indie-rock this year and what a better time for the band to release their brand new single Drive to help them do so. With a release date of May 28th the single promises us a beautiful collision of energy and skilled musicianship within a track perfect for the upcoming summer months and festival season.
The band have already proven a popular new addition to the genre with fans across the pond having notched up several performances at the famous SXSW festival in Texas as well as a slot on the US chat show, The Late Show with David Letterman. The four piece have also supported the likes of White Lies and The Airborne Toxic Event among others. Not bad for a band still so early into their career.
Taken from the bands recently unveiled debut Champion EP, Drive is an anthemic and brightly lit summer hit for the collective which combines a glossy opening that quickly merges into a momentous and ambitiously driven flow of guitar-work with front man Coyle Girelli’s well articulated and wailing vocals sitting centre stage. Moving about the track effortlessly the singer bounces through a melody of challenging peaks and quirky loops showcasing his skills behind the mic while his band play out a well developed backing not unlike the quality heard from some of the genres A-list hit makers such as Arcade Fire, The Killers or Muse.
Drive is a mainstream targeted number that has every ingredient necessary to help it become one of the summer highlights of 2012.
