Single Review: The Subways – ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’
2 min readThree piece indie rockers The Subways return this month with the latest single to be added to the bands swelling catalogue and the next single to be taken from the outfits third studio album, Money and Celebrity.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang follows on from the the parent records previous two singles We Don’t Need Money To Have a Good Time and It’s A Party and unfolds to present to us a pulsating stormer of a track and one with enough headbanging moments to cause us some serious brain damage.
Making its way through an array of musical experimentation with some clear punk influences, front man Billy Lunn’s vocals shine on the track. The band seem to hit a wall however and that comes with the overall direction of the track which seems very dated and would have been better suited as a release some 15 years ago when the bands current sound was all the rage.
Now don’t get us wrong here – Kiss Kiss Bang Bang has some rather enticing elements and is testament to the bands songwriting abilities and the well placed vocal support from bassist Charlotte Cooper gives the track a much needed push into sweeter waters but the band don’t seem to have escaped the enclosure of their comfort zones enough to deliver something memorable or modern by any means with this one.
