Single Review: Britney Spears & Iggy Izalea: ‘Pretty Girls’

1 min read

In an unlikely mash-up, Queen of Pop Britney has teamed up with Queen of the Now Iggy, to create new single Pretty Girls. Britney may not have as much clout as she used to in the music world, but she still has an army of devoted fans, and after her many problems of the past, finally seems to be settled down and interested in music again.

Kicking in with clipped synths and snaps, the first thing you notice is how much like an Iggy track the music is. Britney is trying to be current and up-to-date; feeding off relevant trends and sending out a message that she’s still a musical powerhouse. However, this time Iggy seems to be overshadowing her; the music suits Iggy’s voice much more with its edge, bite and mentality.

The track itself isn’t bad, but it seems to be lacking something. With two huge stars you would expect something a lot more unique or special than this, and Iggy just seems to be outshining Britney, when their styles could easily have worked together to bring something fantastic. What Britney needs to do is concentrate on getting back to her classic pop routes, as we all know that’s where she shines.
