Single Review: Example – ‘Last Ones Standing’

2 min read

Elliot Gleave, or as we know him, Example, has released his latest single this week titled Last Ones Standing, a track produced by Swedish pop experimentalist, Bjorn Yttling, and a swift follow up to the monster chart hit Kickstarts.

ExampleLastOnesStandingStarting off on the right foot, Example is a fairly new addition to the mainstream UK pop scene and we cant seem to get enough of the British lad whose second album Won’t Go Quietly and the records first single, Kickstarts, both landed within the top five earlier in the year as well as previous album singles Won’t Go Quietly and Watch The Sun Come Up also making moderate chart waves.

Leading on from that early success, Last Ones Standing picks up perfectly where Kickstarts left us.

When Won’t Go Quietly was dropped on us back in June, Last Ones Standing was cited by many as being one of the contenders of standout track on the record and this has been picked up on and decided that the track would make for a great Autumn opener.

The song is pumped full of hooks and is carried heavily by a dramatic beat that keeps you in the loop from start to end. Examples delivery and confident offering of the track creates an atmospheric and punchy vibe around what will no doubt turn out to be the singers next chart success.

After my first listen I was hooked. The track is one of those songs that gets into your head, caused predominantly by the infectious, grinding beat. The combination of quick rap offerings and toned down chorus’ make for a perfect pop/rap record.

The video that accompanies the release of the single is also worth the watch as it follows the rapper attempting to stop the illegal bootlegging of his albums in a humorous mini movie showing off Examples adventurous acrobatic skills and amateur acting talents in short form.

The physical copy of Last Ones Standing comes accompanied by a variety of dance heavy remixes from the likes of Manhattan Clique, Doctor P and Grammy Away winning DJ Benny Benassi who has remixed for the likes of Madonna (Celebration) and is considered among the top ten DJ’s in the world.
