Single Review: Badly Drawn Boy – ‘I Saw You Walk Away’
2 min readWith an extensive and critically acclaimed back catalogue as well as being one of the only acts to be able to pull of wearing a winter beanie all year round, Badly Drawn Boy is back with his latest single, I Saw You Walk Away, taken from his seventh studio offering, the poetically titled, It’s What I’m Thinking Part 1 – Photographing Snowflakes. Released in 2010 and containing some of the musicians finest work to date, the record is the first part of a planned trilogy under the It’s What I’m Thinking name.
Fronting the collection, I Saw You Walk Away is an incredible inclusion for one of Britain’s most talented and influential song-smiths.
With an echoed and haunting vocal layering placed modestly over a string arrangement to die for, I Saw You Walk Away is without doubt one of the best releases that the musician has produced over the years.
With a range of thought provoking lyrics including “If I don’t crucify myself, somebody will” as well as the singers vocals that sit confidently in the track and seeping with genuine conviction, I Saw You Walk Away is a track that is a vulnerable move for Badly Drawn Boy with melancholic similarities to fellow singer/songwriter, Morrissey.
I Saw You Walk Away is a well constructed indie gem that is sure to set Badly Drawn Boys year off to a fine start.
