Single Review: Yasmin – ‘On My Own’
2 min readWith an swift ascension from underground trip hop DJ into the world of solo stardom comes the next big thing out of the hip hop arena, Yasmin.
With the credible backing from the likes of super producer and artist, Pharrell Williams, and having worked with some of musics most prominent songwriters including Eve and Will.I.Am, Yasmin is a fresh faced songbird who has cast aside the turntables for her hand at a solo career as an artist in her own right.
With an album scheduled for the early half of the year, Yasmin is building momentum with the release of the forthcoming records first track, On My Own.
Tinted with an atmospheric Drum’n’Bass vibe similar to the likes of some early Massive Attack material, On My Own is a rich, well filled out and infectious piece of hip-hop pop. Throwing breathy vocals around some confidently delivered hooks Yasmin is a talent that is destined for something pretty special as we get a three minute glimpse into whats in store on her debut album.
On My Own is a winner in terms of a debut for Yasmin who shot to prominence as vocalist on Devlin’s Top 20 hit, Runaway, and who is rightfully about to claim her own piece of the limelight with this sturdy and radio friendly track of independence.
