Single Review: Maroon 5 – ‘This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like A Motherf****r’
2 min readCurrently on their colossal V world tour, pop/rockers Maroon 5 have their work cut out for them: their smash hit Sugar became a sweet double platinum selling single and they show no sign of slowing down! To keep the hype surrounding them, a reissue of their current album V includes their new single This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like A Motherfucker (what a mouthful!) Could it be referring to the sharp sting of the burning summer’s rays? Let’s find out.
It’s already clear that this track is going to be popular with the crowd, the hook being the title chanted with some fun, and you can bet the fans will shout it with them. In true M5 style we have some funky beats going on with reggae inspired guitar licks. Whether you like this band or not you can’t deny they know how to churn out the pop/rock gems. It’s not their greatest single though: like many a pop song its pre chorus makes the track feel a little repetitive, but when you’re in the game of pop you stick to those guns to make the hook latch. Lyrically it’s your typical M5 anthem about a poisonous girl/relationship: this particular diva has expensive taste and she’s gonna sting your wallet and your feelings this Summer.
Let’s face it, This Summer’s Gonna Hurt may end up being a mere crowd-pleasing live track than a hit chart topping single, but that doesn’t make the song a complete write off; it’s going to be hella fun for fans to belt out its chorus as the track rips up venues around the world. If you’re a die hard Maroon 5 enthusiast, you should probably get your hands on the single to expand your ever growing M5 collection, but for the average music fan it may take some convincing to flash those dollars.
