Single Review: Cheryl – ‘I Don’t Care’
2 min readThe last few years may have seen Cheryl shy away from the pop limelight following a highly-publicized exit from the U.S version of the X Factor and take time out after the success of her previous studio album but the musical drought has become drenched with some of the singers finest material in recent years with the beauties recent comeback single, Crazy Stupid Love, alongside Tinie Tempah and its upbeat and optimistic follow up, I Don’t Care.
The release of new single I Don’t Care is slated for November 9th and is a hard-hitting dancefloor number that sets expectations for the former Girls Aloud star’s forthcoming record, Only Human, pretty high up there. The melody is energetic and the theme of the song is all about not caring about what the cynics think. Its a strong theme that is evident throughout this new single with the singer delivering lines like “I don’t care and it feels so fucking good” giving the song an explicit edge.
While the lead single to Only Human, the previously released summer hit Crazy Stupid Love, played around with heavy RnB influences, I Don’t Care is a solid, synth-led pop song through and through and it also carries a slightly 80’s vibe. Aside from a moment of what sounds like auto-tune during the closing of the chorus’, Cheryl’s vocals are in fine form, unleashing themselves throughout the track with power and conviction – two qualities that are needed to make a track with a theme like this really shine.
Having already solidified her return to the pop scene with Crazy Stupid Love, I Don’t Care gives further assurance that the upcoming release of Only Human is going to be one of the most highly-anticipated album releases of 2014.
