Album Review: French Montana – Jungle Rules

French Montana has been busy with the release of his new 18 track album Jungle Rules which encapsulates everything you need to hear in a hip hop album. From being the founder of, and heading up his own label Coke Boy Records, he has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in the game throughout his career which includes the likes of Rick Ross, Diddy, The Weeknd, Future and many more.
As well as being on the receiving end of nominations for awards such as ‘Best Hip Hop Video’, ‘Best Rap Performance’ and ‘Top R&B Song’, he has a spate of appearances within film and television. In 2016 he played himself in The Perfect Match alongside some TV appearances in shows such as Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Ridiculousness and Empire. With 2016 being a busy year for Montana with TV and film appearances, it’s now 2017 and he has provided us with his latest musical creations.
Luring you in with the first track, Whiskey Eyes is a hard hitting 4 minutes and 44 seconds of fast lyrical flow. Being backed up by a subtle instrumental, you’ll be transported into the mind of Montana and bare witness to his musical styles and ability as a rapper. Coming up next is Unforgettable which has been making the rounds on the airwaves since its release. Featuring vocals from fellow hip hop artist Swae Lee, this is in itself an unforgettable song. Opening with the distinctive sound of a steel drum, it will play you a melody that will circulate your ear drums endlessly.
As you’ve now immersed yourself fully in Jungle Rules, you’ll soon stumble across 2 tracks that boast the most ferocity. Bring Dem Things featuring Pharrell Williams gives off a 90’s vibe which almost picks you up and drops you into the streets of New York City itself. The percussion and booming kick drum at the start of Montana’s verse had us hitting the rewind button over and over! Bag is another song on the album that had us hooked from the beginning. Alongside Ziico Niico, this is just another example of how good French Montana is at his craft.
With an already existing plethora of artists featured on the album, Jungle Rules is rounded off by the sounds of Young Thug in Blackout and Akaline in Formula, which brings a slightly more bashment sound.
