Single Review: The Kooks – ‘Around Town’

2 min read

The Kooks are back, hooray! The British rock group have been gracing our ears for nearly a decade now with sounds inspired by the British Revival movement of the 60’s and the post-punk revival, the guys have returned with new single Around Town; another taste of what’s to come from their new album due out later this year, Listen, and to this new song we can do just that!

The Kooks - Around TownAround Town doesn’t beat around the bush; a couple of hits on the drums and the track launches into a choir of vocal wails and instrumentation, giving itself some life. The track has a unique DNA consisting of vocals inspired by the 60’s and 70’s and a new wave kind of a vibe, not to mention its tendency to become stuck in your head; another characteristic present in songs from those eras, they are still catchy enough to this day to linger. From start to finish, it is obvious that Around Town is filled to the brim with love from the group.

The Kooks are bound to impress their existing fan base with Around Town as it stays true to the sound they are renowned for, and it has been some time between album releases by the group so new songs are a treat. It’s really great when a young and modern rock group can cite bands from four decades ago as their main musical influences, and it’s also an experience to be able to continue to hear that inspiration flow through the veins of Around Town
