Single Review: Little Mix – ‘Move’

1 min read

After winning the X Factor UK in 2011, Little Mix had great success with their debut album DNA, complete with some great chart toppers including Wings and How Ya Doin’? DNA debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart, the highest start for any UK female group.

Little-mix-move350x350Now, a year after DNA, the girls are giving us a glimpse of their sophomore album Salute with the release of the single Move. It’s been labelled ‘risky’ and the girls have warned it ‘takes a few listens’ to get into. Unfortunately, I’m a few listens in and I’m still finding its use as the invitation to the upcoming album still a bit risky.

The track has those Blurred Lines miscellaneous percussion sounds in the background, but instead of playing with the low intensity, the girls sing their guts out over the top – and it ends up being mismatched. It could have been a great dance song – especially with the title Move, but instead I’m not sure what category it falls in to. You sort of want to move, but definitely could have been moved much more.

The chorus is almost frustrating – because it doesn’t soar with fantastic electro dance beats. The whole song doesn’t really get off the ground, but the girls do sound great vocally.

Not quite a salute from me.
