Single Review: Liam Payne – ‘Strip That Down’

Clearly eager to shed his squeaky clean good boy image from his days as a member of One Direction, Liam Payne releases his sexually playful hip hop debut single Strip That Down.

Writing cred goes to Payne, himself, along with Ed Sheeran (who also contributed much writing to the one Direction catalogue) and acclaimed song writer Steve Mac (Demi Lovato, Shakira, Westlife, Charlie XCX, Jason Derulo…). The track features Quavo (of Migos fame) in the rap break. It was recorded at Rokstone Studios in London. The production is sparse using a repeated 808 beat and prowling bass hook with much of the focal point on Payne’s voice. The call and response licks will get you singing along.

Strip That Down has allure and is quite risky in how understated it is (especially being a debut solo single), but has Liam Payne done enough to stand out strong in the over-crowded music market?
