Single Review: Imagine Dragons – ‘I Bet My Life’

2 min read

It’s been over two years since American indie rockers Imagine Dragons released their highly successful debut album Night Visions. Since then the group has been fairly quiet only releasing two tracks, Battle Cry which was used for the soundtrack of Transformers: Age of Extinction and Warriors which was used made for the 2014 League of Legends World Championship. Now the boys from Las Vegas are back with their brand new single I Bet My Life, a folk inspired track that will appear on their up coming (yet to be titled) sophomore album.

I Bet My Life - Imagine DragonsI Bet My Life is quite an emotional track from the Grammy award winning group, frontman Dan Reynolds explained in a statement that “This song is about the relationship I’ve had with my parents   throughout the years. At times it’s been strained and difficult, but in the end ‘I Bet My Life’ celebrates the bond we still hold on to”.

Whilst the song produces a somewhat epic presence it doesn’t quite pack a punch like earlier tracks such as Radioactive or On Top of the World. In saying that I’m sure the song will still generate chart and radio success however; personally I prefer their earlier work. Its good to see that they are trying new sounds because no one likes a band who doesn’t try new things, however; I just think it’s not the right sound for them (leave that for Mumford & Sons).

Look, music is about opinions and this is just my opinion, its not that I think the song is bad I just feel that compared to their earlier work, I Bet My Life doesn’t live up to the bands incredible reputation. Nonetheless I still look forward to hearing what else they come up with for the new album.
