Single Review: Rumer – ‘Am I Forgiven’
2 min readEquipped with an amazing set of lungs and a voice so close to the iconic tones of Karen Carpenter that it’s spooky, the UK’s finest in 60’s flavoured easy listening, Rumer, is gearing up for the release of single number three, Am I Forgiven, taken from and the opening track to her debut album, Seasons Of My Soul.
Cherry picked by legendary composer and performer Burt Bacharach has opened many doors for Rumer and the singer is destined for international presence which is evident in this latest brass laden release.
Am I Forgiven is a little more upbeat than previous singles, Slow and Aretha. The vibe is fresh yet dated with the inclusion of a confident and wistful horn section that fills out the track around the thumping tambourines and piano tinkering and supports Rumer’s cool, swaying vocals with pure perfection.
The single feels summery and is a great new year release for Rumer whose previous singles, Slow and Aretha, introduced us to the rising star and now, with a further chart worthy release in the form of Am I Forgiven, that star is glowing as bright as ever.
Am I Forgiven is a superb release for Rumer from one of the best albums to be released by a British solo act in a very long time.
