Single Review: Osmo – ‘Heaven Or Hell’

2 min read

Finnish vocalist Osmo is preparing for the release of his highly anticipated debut record next month and ahead of its release the multi-talented musician offers a sweet sample in the form of its first single Heaven or Hell which will be released on 23rd May.

OsmoAs far as debuts go Heaven or Hell ticks all the boxes as a memorable, infectious and radio friendly track and the single also showcases the musicians impeccable mulch-instrumental talents (just check out the video for the Heaven or Hell) in front of the mic as well as behind the scenes with Osmo wearing the producers hat on the upcoming albums release.

Opening with the grinding of a piano Osmo takes to the mic with gusto unveiling a voice that is as much pop friendly as it is soulful. Quick delivered lyrics are offered as the Finnish musician swings around a big band melody full of trumpets, strings and some soulful backing singer crooning and in consistently structured throughout its four minute duration leaving you tapping along to the beat of the track long after you have finished listening. The track also closes with a funk fueled spacey outro as the singer is joined by a ensemble of backing singers that give the track a finishing kick.

The track is very a optimistic number with witty lines such as ‘any kind of depression, is out of the question, keep moving ahead and never press rewind’ setting the mood for this uplifting ditty for the hotly tipped singer who unleashes his debut record Heaven Or Hell Is Just A State Of Mind on 6th June.

It’s no surprise that Osmo’s influences include the likes of Prince and Stevie Wonder. The track has his influences written all over it and you can hear that he has tapped into them when it comes to his vocal style and the rhythm of this number.

Overall we love the sound that Osmo brings to the table and can’t wait for the forthcoming record with hope that we are offered more of what we are given with its first and the singers debut single.
