News: Mighty Hoopla Announces ‘The Gaybourhood’
4 min read
The UK’s biggest pop music festival, Mighty Hoopla, today announces a brand-new area at the festival site this year ‘The Gaybourhood’, which will take up the entire south zone of the site. ‘The Gaybourhood’ will be in partnership with Grindr.
‘The Gaybourhood’ will include ‘The Bump’ stage, as well as three new areas, ‘Hay Girl Hay’, which will feature Queer C*ntry, Coyote Ugly-esque moments, body positive cowboys and bunking broncos, the ‘Working Them’s Club’, an immersive, celebration of East London with cabaret performers and karaoke, and ‘The Dyke Bar’ featuring the team behind London’s UHaul Dykr Rescue club nights and shows.
As part of the partnership, Grindr will also be bringing their Grindr bus, helping festival goers up their Grindr game with that all-important grid staple: the perfect profile pic. This is the very first stop of Grindr’s 2025 European bus tour over Pride Month, and in addition to a full-service portrait photography studio on-board capturing our community in their best light, the bus will also be fully loaded with drag performances, games, free swag, Grindr Unlimited giveaways, and more.
‘The Bump’ stage will welcome some of the world’s best DJs and live performers. 2025 will see the best Hoopla line up of electronic icons ever including Jayda G, Allie X, Girls Don’t Sync, Elkka, Lion Babe, Big Freedia, The Illustrious Blacks and Tom Rassmussen.
Grindr’s new mission is to be the global Gaybourhood in your pocket, and to make a world where the lives of its users and the global LGBTQ+ community are free, equal, and just. For decades, the global LGBTQ+ community has physically connected in cities around the world, creating hubs, or Gaybourhoods, for local gay, bi, trans, and queer people to freely express themselves, enjoy a sense of safety and intimacy, and foster community through spaces created specifically for them. However, not everyone has access to a physical Gaybourhood. For years, Grindr users all over the world have made the app into a Gaybourhood, engaging with others for recommendations, information, resources, and a sense of connection.
Tristan Pineiro, SVP Brand Marketing & Comms at Grindr says: “Mighty Hoopla is an unapologetic, joyous celebration of our community and all things camp, queer, and gay – and has solidified itself as the must-go show-stopping community staple over the last few years. We couldn’t be happier to kick off our Grindr Rides Europe Tour by co-creating our very own Gaybourhood experience (within an already iconic Gaybourhood) at the festival.”
Mighty Hoopla’s Saturday line up sees US R&B superstar Ciara and pop princess of the moment JADE headline, whilst the Sunday welcomes international icon Kesha and special guest, the Queen of Eurovision, Loreen, making Mighty Hoopla the first ever UK festival to have only female headliners in one year.
