News: girli Announces Sophomore Album “Matriarchy” & World Headline Tour

2 min read

Alt-pop icon girli has announced her second studio album, Matriarchy, to be released 17th May, 2024. Pre-save now. The record feels like a rebirth for the celebrated, multi-faceted artist, as she further explores her sound and takes the reins with full creative control, truly cementing her place as a cult figure and ambassador for the next gen of LGBTQIA+ music.

girli launches the announcement with the release of galvanising new single ‘Nothing Hurts Like A Girl’, a gleaming pop diamond forged out of post-breakup despair. “No one knows me better, nothing gets me wetter,” girli sings, celebrating the intensity of queer female love and desire in her own inimitable way.

Of the track, girli said: “‘Nothing Hurts Like a Girl is about the first time a girl broke my heart, and how it stung like no other heartbreak had ever stung before. This song is about my experience of sapphic relationships, their intensity, the higher highs, but lower lows. The love is deeper, but the heartbreak hits harder. It’s both wonderful and terrible at the same time.”

Alongside the release, girli reveals that she will be embarking on a world headline tour in 2024, kicking off in the US in February and hitting the UK and Europe in May and June, including a date at London’s iconic Heaven venue on 20th June. Tickets go on general sale Wednesday, 15th November, 10am local time at www.girlimusic.com. Fans who have pre-ordered the album will have access to the pre-sale on the earlier date of Monday 13th November (10am local time).
