Single Review: Mohombi – ‘In Your Head’
2 min readSwedish-Congolese singer-songwriter Mohombi is back this month with the catchy new single In Your Head which sees the hunky vocalist twisting his vocals around a Cranberries classic with some infectious results.
The self labelled Afro-Viking has been dabbling in the mainstream over the past year after being signed to RedOne’s 2101 Records and releasing his debut album that included a who’s-who of hip hop royalty, working with the likes of US hip hop star Nelly on the singers 2011 single Miss Me as well as Akon, Pitbull and Nicole Scherzinger.
In Your Head is a high energy track for Mohombi that really shows off the musicians ability at unfurling an electronic nugget of power pop. Mixing in the iconic chorus from the Cranberries’ 1994 hit Zombie the singer takes the opportunity for a further touch of self marketing by trading in the original Zombie reference for his own name.
If previous singles haven’t done their job cementing Mohombi into the rising stars of 2012 then In Your Head is gonna be the track to do just that. The track is a powerful number and the fine choice of sample really does get stuck in your head.
