Single Review: Mayer Hawthorne – ‘Her Favorite Song’

2 min read

We first became acquainted with Mayer Hawthorne when the singer released his sophomore album, How Do You Do, back at the end of 2011. On the release the L.A based hip hop/DJ extraordinaire turned out numerous singles that resonated with audiences not just within the U.S but also outside of his homeland, particularly in the UK, partly due to his collaborative efforts on the single The Walk with hip hop duo, Rizzle Kicks.

With new album, Where Does This Door Go having its finishing touches applied before its release next week, Mayer has unleashed a brand new track, the lead single from the forthcoming studio release titled, Her Favorite Song.

Her Favorite Song carries a brilliantly contagious retro quality and a funk fuelled backdrop of bass guitar that molds this track with style and sensuality. Mayers vocals pulsate with a rich and flawless persuasion as they bounce in mid-tempo form alongside Jessie Ware who joins Mayor on the track while adding a fine collaboration to her own resume as she owns the tracks infectious, soulful hook.

The electro-funk goodness of this song claims further relevance given the recent success of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky chart-topper and is quite similar to the French duos latest sound.  It’s a powerful track for Mayer to begin the journey into Where Does This Door Go and with the whispery vocal work of songbird Jessie Ware, this one is sure to be a sizzler this year for the U.S hit-maker.
