Billed as the headline for Wednesday’s Golddust evening at Hoxton Bar and Kitchens intimate showcase space, Tennessee born singer Lauren Pritchard took the opportunity among a busy touring and promoting schedule to play to a small crowd a set of songs from her upcoming debut record, Wasted in Jackson.
No stranger to the London circuit, Pritchard has adopted the capital as her resting ground and core residence since moving from the states to branch out musically. With a voice as precious and striking as female singers come these days, Pritchard is making her mark among a rare league of artful and inspirational young musicians with her imprint on the singer/songwriter genre.
Taking to the stage just after 10pm Pritchard ripped straight into a classy set of piano accompanied pop numbers with her 5 piece band who delivered a tight backdrop for Pritchard’s whisky jazz tones.
Touching on tracks that will be exposed on Wasted In Jackson including the glossy banjo power ballad highlight When The Night Kills The Day, stripped back solo addition No Way, Not The Drinking with it’s thumping bass line and old time piano foundation built around a catchy rhythmic beltfest and lead single Painkillers, Pritchard also threw into her set a smokey cover of the classic TLC signature single Waterfalls, which she delivered with it’s famous Left-Eye rap to perfection and received a rowdy crowd applause.
Pritchard displayed a performer with the right dose of originality and an overflow of talent. With a set of songs as fresh and captivating as they are infectious and empowering, Lauren Pritchard is one songstress to keep both ears pricked for.
