Featured Artist: Julia Holter (Part Two)

Choosing a favourite Julia Holter song is, to borrow a quote from Neil Gaiman, akin to choosing which limb you’d least like to lose. Holter’s music is constructed around the rhythm of the human heart – it bursts with life, and humanity – so each of her tunes can quickly come to feel like an integral part of one’s existence.
Nonetheless, the fast approaching release of Holter’s new album Have You In My Wilderness has us casting our gaze back over the singer/songwriter’s incredible career. From her debut record Tragedy, the 2011 masterwork that found inspiration in classical Greek theatre and sought to engage with the most primal element of the human consciousness, through to Loud City Song, a distinctly cinematic work that mixed aspects of musical theatre with blissful doo-wop pop, Holter’s work has consistently wowed.
Presented for your pleasure then, is our personal pick of best work. Do you agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comment section below.
