Single Review: Drake – ‘Headlines’
2 min readFollowing a long list of highly successful collaborations with a string of A-list musical peers including Eminem, Jay Z, Kanye West and R&B-Pop sweetheart Rihanna, Canadian Hip Hop superstar Drake is gearing up for the release of his latest single, Headlines.
Headlines is the musicians first single to be taken from his upcoming sophomore album release Take Care which is one of the years most eagerly anticipated releases is the follow up to the rappers 2010 debut, Thank Me Later.
With a more synth-heavy edge to previous singles, Headlines takes the bull by the horns and shows off, as the opening lyrics confess, Drakes ‘overdose of confidence’ as we are guided through just shy of four minutes of grinding bass lines and casually approached Hip Hop beats. The rhymings take on a fairly laid back approach on this track and that’s just what makes Headlines so memorable as it feels less threatening than it does rushed to music fans in general, something that is rare within the genre these days and a quality that allows it to be heard by listeners outside of the Hip Hop only circle.
The song sets the mark pretty high in terms of what we can expect from the singles upcoming parent record.
