Single Review: Dr Dre feat. Eminem and Skylar Grey – ‘I Need A Doctor’
2 min read
The godfather of hip hop returns this month with the release of his latest single. I Need A Doctor, prior to the release of his highly anticipated third and final studio record, Detox.
The track has been given a thorough going over by British hip hop producer Alex Da Kid who has worked with previous acts including Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child), Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. The song has already become a fan favorite for Dre followers since its leak back in November.
As with previous successful hip hop tracks such as Eminem’s Love The Way You Lie and Jay Z’s Empire State of Mind, Dre has enlisted some sweet female vocal contributions to give the track a pop enriched flavoring.
Grey opens the track with a lashing of syrupy vocals sat over a delicate keyboard intro before hip hop king and long time Dr Dre collaborator Eminem steps in and cranks up the energy and pretty much rides the tracks through to the end with Skylar providing guest vocals on the chorus. Nearing the end of the track Dr Dre steps in with a slow paced rap segment that feel almost overshadowed by his collaborators.
The track is a superb number for Dre however with Eminem providing much of the filling alongside rising star Grey, the track might as well have been written for the two ‘guests’ than being one under the Dr Dre heading.
