Single Review: Colin Devlin – ‘The Heart Won’t Be Denied’

2 min read

Former Devlin’s front man Colin Devlin is no stranger to a hit record. With a career spanning almost 20 years has been responsible for releasing a high volume of alternative rock releases as part of the four piece outfit that graced the soundtracks of many Hollywood blockbuster films and TV shows such as Batman Forever and Six Feet Under and received critical acclaim throughout their so far four album career.

ColinDevlinTheHeartWontStepping to one side for a slice of solo limelight, Colin Devlin is now gearing up for the release of his first solo venture and as a warm up to the records release we get a taster in the form of its first single, The Heart Won’t Be Denied.

With a gentle guitar opening the track uses a softly strum intro to welcome in Devlin’s mournfully graceful vocals with a subtle string backdrop that sets a gorgeous scene for Devlin’s sympathy craving lyrics.

The Heart Won’t Be Denied is Colin Devlin at his musical and personal best with each word sung with heart wrenching conviction. The piano that forms the backbone of the song is both complimenting and integral to the mood of the song as much as the haunting violins that loop around the centre of the track add an eerie filling to the single which is the first to be taken from the musician’s upcoming release, Democracy Of One.

Already causing a stir in Devlin’s native Ireland the upcoming (and long overdue) release sees Devin transforming himself from his past days as a rock god to a more gentle acoustically tame singer songwriter for his latest project.

The Heart Won’t Be Denied is a gorgeous addition to the career of one of Ireland’s most loved musical sons.
