News: Ed Harcourt Releases New Single ‘The Way That I Live’

2 min read

(UK) Acclaimed songwriter Ed Harcourt has topped off an eventful 2014 with new single ‘The Way That I Live’.

Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, with the same engineer and string ensemble who helped concoct his latest full-length album, “Back Into The Woods”, ‘The Way That I Live’ has been selected to soundtrack Burberry’s Festive 2014 global advertising campaign.

Launched with the first ever live performance of the track at Burberry’s Regent’s Street flagship store, Harcourt’s latest creation grabs you by the hand for a voyage into a wonderland of hope, pianos and nostalgia. This elegant ballad spirals to a breathtaking crescendo of heart-stopping strings from The Langley Sisters as Harcourt’s voice bellows across snow-capped rooftops.

Burberry have called upon Harcourt’s services throughout 2014, featuring his live performances as the focal point of their fashion week runway shows in both London and China. ‘You Can’t Stop the Rain’, which was composed especially to perform in Shanghai, features on the release alongside a new dewy-eyed gonzo-lullaby entitled ‘Take It To The Grave’.

This year has involved far more than dabbling in catwalk anthemics though. In January 2014, Harcourt released a new record entitled ‘Time of Dust’. The 28-minute long mini-album was named album of the week by Guardian’s Alexis Petridis, who talked of the album’s “gothic grandeur”. With his producer, songwriting gun-for-hire hat on, he found himself working with Marianne Faithfull (touring the songs they wrote together throughout the UK & Europe), Kathryn Williams, Ren Harvieu and the hotly-tipped James Bay; and playing piano on Lana Del Rey’s latest album. Meanwhile, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s hugely successful album “Wanderlust”, which he produced and co-wrote, has been awarded a silver disc.

Harcourt will return to the studio this winter to begin recording his seventh album. Working with Flood (Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey, etc), Ed’s new, much heavier scorched-heart sound will feature the added grunt of his new custom-made Beastatone guitar. Ed plays the East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf on November 11th, and is on tour throughout Europe with Marianne Faithfull until the end of 2014.

‘The Way That I Live’ is now available to pre-order on iTunes and other digital stores. It’s released worldwide by CCCLX on Dec 15th 2014.
