News: Cold Chisel To Play The ‘Last Stand’ Of Sydney’s Entertainment Centre

2 min read

(AUS) Iconic Australian rock band Cold Chisel announced today that they will play a special gig on Friday December 18, 2015 to mark the closure of Qantas Credit Union Arena (formerly known as the Sydney Entertainment Centre). The inner city venue has been the rock & roll heart of Sydney since it opened in 1983 but after the weekend of December 18/19 it will be demolished and replaced by a new arena nearby. Cold Chisel were chosen as the last Australian artist to play this great room and have promised to make it a night to remember.

When they originally disbanded in late 1983, Cold Chisel played five brilliant, emotion-charged farewell shows at what was then the Sydney Entertainment Centre. These were the final nights of their national Last Stand tour and remain some of the most talked-about shows in the folklore of the venue. They were commemorated in an unforgettable film and live album.

“Having finished our Last Stand tour there in the year the venue opened, it’s great to now be playing at their Last Stand. We’re gonna tear the place to the ground.” said frontman Jimmy Barnes. Cold Chisel might announce other shows elsewhere in Australia earlier in 2015, but this special December 18 show at the Qantas Credit Union Arena – “The Last Stand of Sydney’s entertainment centre” – will definitely be their final gig of the year.

Renowned as one of the most dynamic live acts in Australian music history, Cold Chisel – Barnes (vocals), Ian Moss (guitar/vocals), Don Walker (piano/keyboards), Phil Small (bass) and Charley Drayton (drums) – will perform two sets at this special gig. The first set will be a diverse mix of songs from the band’s extensive catalogue and some pulled from their recent recording sessions while a special second set will be made up entirely of songs from the Last Stand shows.

Members of Cold Chisel’s mailing list will get exclusive first access to the best tickets for this special show. All members will be able to buy a maximum of 6 tickets from 10am on Wednesday May 6 using a special password which will be emailed to them on the evening of Tuesday May 5. Further tickets will be offered to members of the My Ticketek database from 10am on Thursday May 7 before a final allocation of seats is offered to the general public at 10am on Friday May 8.
