Single Review: Taylor Swift – ‘Look What You Made Me Do’
1 min read“I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, ’cause she’s dead.”
Look What You Made Me Do is the latest power pop release by Taylor Swift. Jack Antonoff, who has recently worked on Lorde’s album to name but one of his many high profile collaborations, served as producer on the track. This track deviates from the perfectly pop persona Taylor Swift emanated in her previous release 1989. Look What You Made Me Do is almost anti-melodic, grime pop which borrows from the iconic I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred. She lashes out with full attitude proving that she’s not taking any ‘you know what’ from anyone.
It’s supposedly a song in response to Kanye’s Famous which includes the provoking line referencing Taylor, “I made that bitch famous” and whose music video features a likeness of her naked in bed with Kimye amongst other celebrities. I think its meaning is also more empowering referring to Taylor’s recent success in court against arse-grabber David Mueller. She sings, “But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time…I’ve got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined…”. I wouldn’t want to have any bad blood with Taylor!
