Single Review: One Republic – ‘No Vacancy’

No Vacancy is the latest track to emerge from the One Republic camp. The Colorado-based band are set to return from a short hiatus, during which frontman Ryan Tedder has been writing chart smashes for other huge artists.
The Balearic feel to No Vacancy is warm and engaging, but errs on the wrong side of repetitive. It’s not forgettable, but that may not necessarily be a good thing here. The delivery of Tedder’s vocal comes across as whiny after too long, but if only for borrowing too much from Justin Timberlake.
The tropical house horse is still being flogged, and One Republic may have left it a little too late to climb onboard this trend. No Vacancy isn’t a bad track, it’s just come a little too late to be as relevant as it had the potential to be. It will certainly be popular amongst the band’s many fans, but is unlikely to replicate the success as previous global hits.
No Vacancy is inoffensive pop done well but without really breaking any boundaries or setting the bar any higher. But as a returning single, it sets the tone nicely for One Republic to be able to continue doing what they do best.
