Single Review: Luke Bryan – ‘Play It Again’

Luke Bryan may have had a slow start in the music industry over 5 years ago, but he is now one of main men in the country genre. Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Bryan’s fourth studio album Crash My Party was released in 2013 and was an instant hit. Play It Again is the fourth single from this album.
Play It Again sits nicely in the country-pop crossover niche. It starts off with a relatively stripped back verse before bursting into its smile inducing chorus. It’s obvious that Bryan knows his voice well and he has a terrific range. Play It Again is vocally perfect and deviates from the obvious vocal melody. The track is about Bryan winning over a girl with the power of music, in particular, one specific song she has been waiting to be played on the radio. The subject matter and the lyrics are not especially original, but Play It Again oozes charisma. There is no doubt that by the last chorus, the audience will be singing along asking that Bryan’s track is played again.
Play It Again is a country pop song that doesn’t necessarily give us anything new. However it’s charisma and feel-good vibe make this a track that you have to sing along with, and will no doubt be a big hit for Luke Bryan.
