Single Review: Demi Lovato – ‘Confident’
2 min readDemi Lovato is known for two things: her Disney roots and having that cool rock/pop chick vibe that comes from breaking down the stereotypes and coming out on your own as an artist. Her previous hits fell well under that umbrella and one could feasibly expect the same from Confident. And one would be quite wrong.
New single Confident is as punchy as it is raw and it’s as interesting as it is amazing. The song leads you in with cool synth, which you’d really expect from a hip-hop album, not a popstar. The synth is paired with a heavy drum beat and Lovato’s strong vocals, as she sings: “it’s time for me to take it, I’m the boss now”. This hectic combination only amps up during the song, as more instruments come in and slam you into a bit of musical wall, but somehow it really works.
The only breath of fresh air you get in the song is actually in the stripped back and fully bare chorus. Lovato’s voice shines against the organic clicking and although it’s quick and simple, it comes at the right time and the message you come away with is literally just: yes, I too can be confident. The song’s title, Confident matches its intensity and power and you’re left feeling like you could take over the world.
