Single Review: Avicii – ‘The Days’

2 min read

How good is Avicii? Seriously, how good is he? The Swedish EDM megastar is set to release his second studio album, Stories, and the first single The Days is just so good. While his super successful debut album True toyed with the idea of dance music with a folky twist, or “country house” as it was to be dubbed, The Days is a taste of something a little different from Avicii, with Stories to be a fusion of – wait for it – dance and rock with a hint of reggae. How good is that?

Avicii The DaysAlready Avicii has divulged little secrets from his upcoming experimental record, confirming collaborations with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Greenday’s Billie Joe Armstrong, System of a Down’s Seri Tankian, Jon Bon Jovi and Wyclef Jean. That’s an impressive line up if I’ve ever seen one. There are only a few names that could add intrigue to a list like that, and one of them is The Days’ feature vocalist Robbie Williams.

Opening with a sweet acoustic melody, the song doesn’t waste any time getting into the lyrics, with Robbie’s unmistakable vocals sending a message of knowing these are some of the best days of our lives. It’s fun and catchy and just makes me so happy. Driving down the highway with the top down kind of happy. The bridge turns the song around a technicolour pop corner with a synthesised melody stamping Avicii’s sound and closing the tune out.

The balance of this track works so well, with Avicii making Robbie’s voice more current than ever and Robbie lending some old school credit to one of this decades most exciting young producers. Is it one of the great songs of our time, nah. But it just makes you feel so good! The Days is already racking up some serious radio airplay, it’s a surefire staple for any upcoming dance festival and should be a no brainer for your summer BBQ playlist. So seriously, how good is Avicii?
