2 min readUB40 featuring Ali Campbell return to the stage with a very special show at KOKO in London on Monday September 4th.
The night will celebrate UB40’s induction in the Music Walk Of Fame on the same day, with a ceremony and a stone permanently placed on Camden High Street alongside greats such as The Who and Amy Winehouse. Later at KOKO, Ali will celebrate a 45 year legacy with an intimate show for fans, celebrating the band that transformed music in this country, putting British reggae on the global map.
“I feel honoured to be inducted in the “Music Walk of Fame “and I feel proud to have played a part in promoting Reggae, the music I love, and blessed to have worked with all the great musicians I met along the way.” – Ali Campbell
UB40 topped the UK singles chart on three occasions and sold 70 million records as they took their smooth yet rootsy musical blend to all corners of the globe. Between 1983 and 1998 the group produced three ‘Labour Of Love’ albums, bringing hits such as Eric Donaldson’s ‘Cherry Oh Baby’, Lord Creator’s ‘Kingston Town’ and Johnny Osbourne’s ‘Come Back Darling’ to a new, global audience.
They also topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic with their reggae cover of Neil Diamond’s ‘Red Red Wine’, and a cover of ‘I Got You Babe’ with Chrissie Hynde, and had a worldwide hit and Is #1 with ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’.
UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and Astro released the album ‘Unprecedented’ last year, recorded before Ali’s great friend and UB40 original, Astro, tragically died in November in 2021. An album to inject a little reggae sunshine into even the darkest days, it is also a fitting memorial to Astro.
