News: Skye Announces New Solo Album

2 min read

In A Low Light, is the sublime 4th solo album from Skye Edwards, the unmistakable voice of 8 million album selling trip hop group, Morcheeba. Following the band’s 2013 album, Head Up High, Skye returned to the studio to record a collection of nine beautifully crafted songs for her new record.

“I wanted to write an album of songs that I could fall asleep to” says Skye, “but it ended up being so much more than a night time record”. Skye wrote the album with her long time collaborator and husband Steve Gordon and sort the digital production talents of Emmy nominated composer, Robert Logan. Robert blends acoustic and electronic instruments and sound sources including voices, field recordings and a Hungarian cimbalom, to create a sound that is minimal and detailed at the same time.

The album opens with ‘Give In’ that has a deeply relaxing, meditative quality. Relaxed enough to sleep to but with an odd, strong energy that makes you want to listen over and over again. The deceptively complex production adds a great sense of drama to the songs. This can be heard in the track ‘Dead and Buried’ for example; it is wonderfully Lynchian with it’s slow rippling beat that has a somewhat kinetic energy.

In her typical innovative style, Skye has also curated a series of companion videos and animations to be enjoyed alongside the album via painstakingly searching hundreds of clips on Vimeo. The video for lead track ‘Said And Done’ was originally a short clip by film maker, Tom Merillion.

Coinciding with the launch of ‘In A Low Light‘, Skye has announced a special album release show Under The Bridge in London on November 11th, where she will debut new material in addition to some of her most loved songs.
