News: Shovels and Rope and Shakey Graves Announce Aussie Co-Headline Tour
2 min read(AUS) Rollin’ out with a rawkus racket, Shovels & Rope and Shakey Graves – arguably the two hottest names in Americana music – bring their rollicking, foot stomping live performances to Australia for the very first time next March.
Shovels & Rope, the acclaimed award-winning husband and wife duo of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, bring their effortlessly interconnected folk/rock direct from Charleston, South Carolina to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. Co-headlining on all dates will be the wild and mesmerizing Shakey Graves, the Americana, anti-folk poster boy, Alejandro Rose-Garcia.
Shovels & Rope came about when Mississippi-born, Nashville-bred Cary Ann Hearst met Texas-born, Colorado-raised Michael Trent, both busy working on significant solo careers at the time. They instantly connected, musically and personally, finding that their voices – which beautifully entwine through haunting harmonies – and philosophies matched up perfectly. Last August saw the release of their highly anticipated sophomore album, Swimmin’ Time, #1 on the Billboard Folk Chart, #2 at Americana Radio for more than a month and debuting at #20 on the Billboard Top 200.
Accompanying Shovels & Rope on tour will be Shakey Graves – stage name of Alejandro Rose-Garcia who began making music as part of New York City’s “anti-folk” scene. Relying on visceral song-writing and organic sound, he began producing haunting, lo-fi recordings and developing an explosive live performance. His self-released 2011 debut album, Roll the Bones brought national acclaim and three years later, still ranks near the top of Bandcamp’s digital best-seller charts. With his new album, And the War Came (due for an Australian release in February through Dualtone / Cooking Vinyl Australia), Shakey Graves extends the ground – emotionally and sonically – broken by his debut.
