Originally released in December 2004, Eye to the Telescope remains an iconic and beloved record that defined an era of British music in the 2000s. These exclusive shows will see KT perform the 5 x times platinum album in its entirety for the first time ever, offering fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience to relive the magic of a defining era.
Eye to the Telescope catapulted KT Tunstall into the spotlight, establishing her as one of the UK’s most respected singer-songwriters. Featuring hit singles like “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree,” “Suddenly I See,” and “Other Side of the World,” the album quickly became a fan favorite and earned KT critical acclaim, and slew of awards.
The breakout single “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” not only captivated audiences with KT’s now-legendary 2004 performance on Later… With Jools Holland, where she replaced rapper Nas as a last minute addition to the line up. Performing solo with a loop pedal, this iconic moment propelled her into the spotlight after a memorable, game-changing performance to coin a brand new term at the time, ‘went viral’. The track also earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2007. Meanwhile, “Suddenly I See” a worldwide smash hit, became a cultural touchstone, soundtracking the iconic opening scene of The Devil Wears Prada and winning KT the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically in 2006. “Universe & U” and “Other Side of the World” found their way into American households as part of the hugely popular series Grey’s Anatomy.
This landmark album earned KT nominations for the 2005 Mercury Music Prize, three BRIT Award nominations—including Best British Live Act and Best Breakthrough Artist, an Ivor Novello Award, a Grammy nomination —and secured her the BRIT Award for Best British Female Solo Artist in 2006. The album has gone on to sell over 4 million copies worldwide. In 2024 she received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection, demonstrating she has the respect of both her peers and the public, as well as her career long determination not to be boxed into any singular musical identity or to fall into creative stasis.
Reflecting on this milestone and the upcoming shows, KT says: “When I made my very first record, Eye to the Telescope, it never crossed my mind where I might be when it turned 20. It was a fantastically scrappy album to make, with very little money and a handful of musician friends. Over the years. I’ve been told the most amazing stories of what these songs mean to people all over the world, how they have kept them company through love and loss, through being lost and getting found. Needless to say, it’s been a beautiful thrill. So, how to properly celebrate our 2 decades with this album?! The good news is, I LOVE throwing parties, and this anniversary happens to coincide with another special birthday – my big 5-0! A major joint shindig needed cooking up, and believe me, I have been busy in the party kitchen. And as you know, the best parties never only last for one night..so we have two shows in my beloved Scotland as part of Celtic Connections in January and then, after a few months of recuperation, a great big knees up at the Royal Albert Hall for my 50th birthday!”
The 20th Anniversary live dates are as follows: January 30th, 2025, at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, followed by a show at Glasgow Barrowlands on January 31, 2025. The celebrations will continue with a special show at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall on June 23, 2025, featuring some special guests, to be announced. All shows will see Eye To The Telescope played in its entirety for the first time.
