2 min read

(AUS) Band of the moment Catfish and the Bottlemen announce their new single ‘Hourglass’, a festival anthem in waiting.

2015 has seen Catfish and the Bottlemen burst on to the scene with debut album The Balcony now Gold in the UK, shifting over 100,000 copies. Following a string of huge triple j, BBC Radio 1, 6 Music and XFM playlisted singles: ‘Kathleen’ and ‘Cocoon’, Catfish and the Bottlemen stormed stages up and down the UK on their latest sold out tour, which culminated in two epic shows at the Shepherds Bush Empire. The band have been touring the US non-stop where it is bubbling under and will play two shows at the Brixton Academy (London) this November which sold out in ten minutes.

After winning over audiences across Australia supporting The Kooks in January, Catfish and the Bottlemen will return this July to play Splendour In The Grass. The band have announced two Splendour sideshows which are selling fast; Wednesday 22nd July at Corner Hotel in Melbourne and Thursday 23rd July at Oxford Art Factory in Sydney.

The accompanying video to ‘Hourglass’ stars Ewan McGregor and came about after frontman Van McCann refused to take no for an answer in his quest to meet his hero. After cutting the original lyric video to ‘Kathleen’ using Ewan Mcgregor film clips, he bombarded Ewan with tweets and even produced a ‘10 Reasons Why I Love Ewan McGregor’ video for Transmitter. Once the boys added Ewan’s face to their drum skin and toured with it, Ewan eventually relented and took them out for breakfast in New York. He’s since seen them live, jammed with them, and now taken the starring role in their brilliant new video.

“Honestly working with Sir Ewan was one of the funnest things I think i’ll ever get to do. He’s the most interesting and interested guy i’ve ever met.’ Van says. ‘He’s just fucking brilliant. Total gentleman! When people tell you not to meet the people you look up to, FUCK THATTTTTTTTT! He genuinely buzzes off the band. Sends me photos of him listening to us before he walks onstage on his endless run of sold out broadway. AND HE LIKES MY LYRICS! Honestly, I love him. It all makes me laugh my head off! His daughter Clara is a class A photographer as well! The artwork for the single is a photo of me and Ewan that she took! Videos for us are hard as we’ve got Austen Powers heads but this was just fucking class craic!”
