Single Review: Macy Gray – ‘The Sellout’
2 min readHot on the footsteps of the albums lead single, Lately, US superstar Macy Gray is set to release the albums second single and title track, The Sellout.
The Sellout is Gray’s first album in three years and has already proven to be a UK success for the raspy voiced singer who first won the worlds hearts back in 1999 with the mammoth single I Try, which went on to sell millions of copies and win numerous awards alongside the parent record, On How Life Is.
Back for more, Gray’s latest album is a collection of RnB hits tinged with disco and is well balanced between ballad tear jerkers and dance floor party numbers.
New single The Sellout is the second track to be taken from the record and the second ballad from The Sellout. The track oozes vulnerability and shows a highly sensitive side to the singer about giving up a fight for a relationship that’s at a dead end. It’s a catchy and sweet ballad for the singer who does mellow just as well as she does dance diva and on this track she proves that she still has what it takes to release some radio friendly hits as good as those she released in the early years of her career.
The single is a perfect follow up to Lately and no doubt the warm up to the records first disco laced release.
An ear pleasing hit and heart string tugger from an incredible new record.
