Single Review: Molotov Jukebox – ‘Get Ready’

2 min read

Quite possibly my favorite musical collective of the moment Molotov Jukebox deliver their latest single in the tight and tasty form of Get Ready, a standalone single put together for their fast growing fan base while preparations are being made for the release of the bands next EP.

MolotovJukeboxGetReadyThe track is a familiar one, a Smokey Robinson penned cover of the Temptations 1966 Motown classic but what Molotov Jukebox have created here is a number that presents itself as not only a fantastic cover but a well crafted multi-genre coated recording in its own right with a progressive South American flavoring while a driving, infectious rhythm courses through its musical veins.

With the beautiful and confident Natalia Tena fronting her five piece male band the track is overflowing with gypsy lashings and funky ‘Gypstep’ melodies that gives the kiss of life to the iconic Temptations hit.

With a long list of film credits under her belt including scene stealing moments in the Harry Potter film series (Tena played the loveable character of Nymphadora Tonks) the multi-talented songbird now adds some of her magic to Molotov Jukebox as she sports an accordion while unleashing a powerful dosage of vocals through the tracks 3 minute lifespan while her band, consisting of Sam Apley on Vocals and Violin, Tom Wilson on Bass, Adam Burke on Guitar, Max Burnett- Wain on Drums and Angus Moncrieff on Trumpet, support the singer enthusiastically with a carnival influenced instrumental backdrop and some complimenting backing vocal chants. Get Ready is a memorable track that will bring the sun out of any wet winter day…metaphorically speaking.

Get Ready is a superb mainstream introduction with a twist for Molotov Jukebox and one that I am sure will have the band on everyone’s lips in no time.
