Live Review: The Struts – 6th October 2024 – Roundhouse, London, UK

2 min read

On Sunday, October 6th, The Struts brought their tour to London, delivering an electrifying performance at the iconic Roundhouse venue. Fans eagerly anticipated what frontman Luke Spiller described as “one of the most important shows in their history.” Co-headlining the event was the fiery Courtney Barnes, who kicked off the night with an energetic set, full of stomp and perseverance, setting the perfect tone for what was to come.

As the crowd waited for The Struts, the atmosphere was kept lively with a mix of Blur and Queen tracks, getting everyone in the mood for an unforgettable night of rock and roll. When the band hit the stage, their charisma, especially that of lead singer Luke Spiller, was undeniable. A dynamic blend of Jagger, Mercury, and Bolan, Spiller commanded the stage, interacting with the audience like a fifth band member. His call-and-response antics, vocal harmonies, and even a crowd-wide sing-off with him going into the middle of it kept the energy high. For someone not typically a fan of their music, the performance was engaging and fresh.

Even lesser-known tracks like Can’t Stop Talking were met with enthusiasm, thanks to Spiller’s captivating presence, while fan-favourites like In Love with a Camera and Could Have Been Me had the audience waving, clapping, and jumping non-stop.

The band’s vibrant confidence was matched by the other members as well. Bassist Jed Elliott remained cool and composed, providing solid support to Adam Slack’s glitzy, May-like guitar solos. Each member complemented the others perfectly, creating a seamless blend of modern glam rock that was hard to resist.

The Struts show that there’s still room for fun in the world of live music. Not every band needs to draw inspiration from 18th-century poetry—sometimes, a focus on delivering high-energy, quality entertainment is more than enough. And for The Struts, this mission is refreshingly successful.
