Interview: Russell Watson

2 min read

He’s sold close to 10 million albums worldwide. He’s performed for the likes of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Pope. He’s worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry including Paul McCartney and Benny and Bjorn of ABBA. He has played on some of the most renowned stages in the world like the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Stadium, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and at some of the worlds biggest events such as the 2002 Commonwealth Games and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert in 2013. And this is all on top of releasing hit after hit album, appearing in several top billing musicals like War of the Worlds and Chicago and winning the hearts of music lovers in all corners of the globe.

Watsons career as The People’s Tenor has been going from strength to strength for over 20 years and we had a chance to chat with Russell again, 13 years on from our last sit down with him, to talk about that incredible career, and what a fascinating and fun conversation it was; even with a pestering Cockrel trying its best to interrupt up mid-interview. Here Russell talks to us about his impressive career meeting music icons, getting praise from a surprise acting great and gives us a glimpse into his current sell-out Magnificent Buildings tour of the UK. Check out the full interview here with the 4-time Classical Brit Award winner…
