Snapshot review: This wickedly fast-paced horror-action flick doesn’t let up the pace for one second. Asia Reaves is our bad-ass, revenge filled heroine. The Virgil, a cult-worshipping satanic ‘hotel’ is our setting. The quest is simple: Asia has to save her sister Maria from becoming forever bound to this devil-worshiping, secret society. The film begins with a flashback, when Asia ends up shooting her abusive father in an effort to protect her sister. Unfortunately, the police apprehend the two sisters, and Asia runs away into the rainy night, only to be caught and sent to prison, abandoning her sister Maria to a life filled with pain and suffering.

Luckily, in prison, Asia learns to fight, becoming a true warrior, equipped to go head to head with even an army of immortal villains. The action sequences are brilliantly choreographed as the camera swings you about on a dizzying adventure of pulled out eye-sockets, excessive amounts of blood, and plenty of guts. It’s completely and utterly ridiculous but Zazie Beets who plays Asia adopts unyielding ferocity, driving the plot through the fiery corridors of hell. Myha’la plays Maria, and the chemistry between the two actors is one of the strengths of the film. Unfortunately, the plot is smeared with mediocrity. There seems to be no concern on what motivates these devilish hearthens other than quite a surface level commentary on class inequalities. Despite the film having an air of predictability, the action sequences on their own should be enough to keep audiences delighting in the over-top gore of the spectacle.
