Single Review: Kesha – ‘Praying’

Kesha has officially returned with her first solo track since 2013 – Praying.  The partying we’d normally associate with her has taken a back seat, allowing her vulnerable side to takeover.

Written by Kesha, Ben Abraham and Ryan Lewis, her leading track from the upcoming album Rainbow is a cathartic one many believe to be directed towards her former producer, Dr. Luke, following their legal dispute.

Kesha has claimed Praying is about “hoping everyone, even someone who hurt you, can heal.”  Listening to this song, this is certainly a sincere gesture.

The soft piano melody leaves no trace of bitterness from Kesha as she embraces all of her experiences, especially the bad ones.  She acknowledges how her life events have shaped her and made her stronger.

This is a song about personal growth, healing, and closure.  With a universally applicable theme and change in style, Kesha will be hooking in a number of unsuspecting fans.

Praying has been released with a slightly garish music video featuring some outrageous wardrobe choices, matching the Kesha style you would expect.  It ends with text declaring “the beginning” – marking the transition from party girl to soulful artist.
