Single Review: Janet Jackson – ‘No Sleeep’

2 min read

It’s been several years since Ms Jackson offered fans anything new in the way of singles. Despite taking to the road for the majority of 2011 for her Number Ones: Up Close and Personal tour, Janet hasn’t frequented the charts or the recording studio for some time now, with the megastars last musical offering being 2008’s Discipline which spawned the memorable single, Feedback.

Janet Jackson No SleeepWith a comeback brewing for some time now, Janet has recently unveiled plans for a mammoth global tour in support of her brand new album which is currently being fronted by the singers first single in 7 years, No Sleeep.

The track screams “hit” right from the first pulsating RnB beat that ushers Janet’s smooth vocal delivery into motion with sensuality and an effortless superstar quality.  With the intro dressed in rainfall sound effects, No Sleeep is wrapped in a casual tone with Janet’s whispery vocals travelling through the number with confidence and sensuality. It has elements of early Janet material and also elements of The Velvet Rope era to a certain extent so will appeal to both late bloomers to Ms Jackson’s career and those who have followed the icon from her very early years.

No Sleeep meets every expectation that we had placed on this slow-paced comeback and gets us very excited about the RnB queen’s forthcoming studio album. If the rest of the record is anything like this lil’ ditty, then fans are in for one hell of a treat!
