Single Review: Vanessa Amorosi – ‘This Is Who I Am’

2 min read

Australian singer Vanessa Amorosi is back this month with her latest single This Is Who I Am and it has been a long time since we last heard anything from the ARIA award winning vocalist who was brought into the spotlight courtesy of the dance anthem Absolutely Everybody, which held international radio airwaves hostage back in 1999 when the song reached the Top 10 in the UK charts.

VanessaAmorosiThisIsWhoIAmThis Is Who I Am debuted at number one in her native Australia when it was first released in 2009 but we are only just receiving this one now.

The track, recorded in Gothenberg, Sweden, was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge (Green Day) and produced by MachoPsycho (Pink) so she has been catered for by good hands for this track. This Is Who I Am is a meaty slab of rock tinged pop taken from her forthcoming album Hazardous. It has a basic format similar to that of U.S rock chick Kelly Clarkson.

Her vocals are genuinely stable on the record and you can hear the mature female singer that Amorosi has become on this one since her bubblegum pop beginnings. She can definitely sing, a talent not shared by many similar singers these days and a quality that has garnished her with the multi-million selling musician status in her native Australia. The single is another Amorosi attempt to crack a market outside of the one down under and I think it has the potential to do just that.
