Album Review: StreetDance 2 – Soundtrack

2 min read

Following the same formula that worked so well with the original StreetDance soundtrack, StreetDance 2 dishes up yet another tasty dosage of hip hop and pop heaving hits from a who’s who of chart topping acts that have graced the airwaves over the past year as well as some national treasures of British music.

With the soundtrack to the first StreetDance film showcasing the cream of the UK’s hip hop crop and mainstream superstars from across the pond, Streetdance 2 fairs just as well as it presents to us a collection of the finest that the world of hip hop and rap has to offer with a few pop highlights dotted throughout the brimming running order of this latest collection.

Streetdance2Jessie J adds her effortless flow to the hit heavy track-listing with her latest number one single, Domino. US rap superstar Nicki Minaj offers her infectious smoothie Superbass to the centre of the record in perfect sync with the release of the stars highly anticipated new album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, utilizing StreetDance 2 as a worthwhile marketing tool.

Some of the notables are brought along by the finest of male hip hop stars including Rizzle Kicks, Angel, songwriting heavyweight Taio Cruz and American hip-hop king Drake, giving the collection a smooth, masculine injection of talent.

Dappy continues to fly the flag for his N-Dubz counterparts on this latest StreetDance instalation with his recent collaborative effort, Rockstar. N-Dubz were a prominent act who offered a double dose to the first films soundtrack and the star continues to carry the torch on the latest collection with his debut solo effort that sees the man of the moment sharing the stage with one of the UK’s most influential musical icons, Brian May. May also offers the enormous Queen hit We Will Rock You to the record as the number opens the hit-packed collection.

The tracks that mold this soundtrack, with the exception of the opening number, capture everything that is current in the world of hip-hop and the track-listing does a great job and showcasing the talent of today’s upcoming and recent breakthrough musical acts.
