Single Review: Zayn – ‘Pillowtalk’

1 min read

He’s shed every semblance from his days as a band boy bopper and now Zayn Malik is ready to tackle life as a solo artist, releasing his long awaited debut single, Pillowtalk. And It’s 3 minutes of slinky sound that oozes with an effortless sensual appeal.

PILLOWTALKAn absolute standout for this track, is the emotion that’s pulsating through each of its raw lines, whether it be the zealous nature of the sexual chorus, with Zayn serenading, “A place that is so pure, so dirty and raw” / “Be in the bed all day …” / “Fucking you, and fighting on”. Or the striking line that’s layered throughout the tune, “It’s our paradise and it’s our warzone”, which sums up the song quite eloquently.

Pillowtalk is a very refreshing track, it’s understated but brilliant, and there’s no denying it – Zayn is an artist. In the space of 3 minutes he manages to break all genre barriers and create depth with a beautiful atmosphere using only lyrics and a subtle building melody to enhance his performance. It’s one of those tracks that might shock at first but it’s smooth groove is one that grows on you with each listen. And let’s face it, it’s almost impossible to ignore Zayn’s musical maturity and his heartfelt croon, making Pillowtalk one killer track.
