Single Review: V V Brown – ‘Faith’ (Feat. Kele Okereke)

Our favourite comeback of 2013, V V Brown, is about to unveil single number 3 from the singers latest studio album, Samson & Delilah.
V V took quite some time out of the recording industry following her Traveling Like The Light debut in 2009 to focus on a new sound and a new image to return with, transforming herself from a preened and proper pop starlet into a dark and theatrical songwriting queen when she leapt back to the front row of brilliance last year with her latest record, a collection we hailed as the best release of 2013.
Previous singles have done very well for the singer during this process of musical and visual reinvention. Lead single Samson and bouncy follow-up, The Apple had us begging for more as both tracks introduced us to the singers edgy new style which combines elements of goth pop and electronica with much more thought provoking and intense themes than her former Shark In The Water days in the charts.
Faith is the latest single to find it’s way out of Samson & Delilah and this time the singer has been joined by Bloc Party vocalist Kele Okereke for a fitting collaboration. The track is one of the more mellow, traditional pop inclusions within the new record but it has every bit the bite as previous singles that we have been offered. V V takes the first verse and Kele the second, both singing atop a pulsating foundation of grinding synths and bass while spacey effects add a dreamy coat to the numbers melancholic attire. V V’s vocals are astounding on the number; passionate and versatile, and Kele’s is a welcome guest vocal on the track, sitting confidently beside V V rather than clawing for attention.
Faith is yet another outstanding gift from V V and the perfect choice as a single following on from Samson and The Apple. It’s tracks like this that make us so thankful to have V V back on the scene and blowing the rest of the competition out of the water!
