Single Review: Paul McCartney – New

1 min read

There comes a time in every musicians career when the talent dries up and retirement is looming. Fortunately for Paul McCartney, that moment isn’t coming anytime soon.

NewAs shown on McCartney’s latest single New, from his upcoming album of the same name, a fresh start has been had while still remaining true to that signature Beatles style. The song itself sounds as if it could have surfaced on any one of The Beatles classic albums, yet still finds a way to appeal as a captivating pop track in the year 2013.

At age 71, McCartney still knows what people want to hear without having to play into a relentless onslaught of fads. However, enlisting super-producer Mark Ronson to lend a hand with the single and album has paid off in an enormous way. While McCartney is an undisputed king of songwriting, Ronson has helped to give New that unmistakable mass appeal.

It’s short and sweet, but New is a song that will make you tap your foot and leave you with a smile. It’s charming and anthemic without ever seeming redundant. Ultimately, McCartney has proved that unlike some of his peers, he is still at the top of his game and shows no signs of slowing down.
