Single Review: Justin Bieber – ‘Sorry’

2 min read

With a massive image overhaul and a promise to his fans to come back with bigger and better hits, Justin Bieber has done nothing but prove he wasn’t kidding around. With his first two singles Where Are Ü Now? and What Do You Mean? hitting the charts in top ten position, his new single Sorry, will be no different.

JustinBieberSorrySorry follows the same hit making formula of the first two tracks released off of Purpose, but it’s also fresh and unique all on its own. The song is basically introduced just with Bieber’s voice and a blunt drum beat and there’s just something about his voice following the beat instead of the melody that makes this song so cool. As more sounds enter, Justin’s voice continues to lead the song easily, standing out against what is really just a mix of electronic noise. When he sings, “Cos I just need one more shot at second chances,'” It feels really real and it’s a perfect lead in, to the chorus.

Actually lyrically the song is very strong. It isn’t some poetic masterpiece, but it’s honest and somehow each word fits into each beat with effortless style. The chorus is short and simple, but it’s catchy as hell and just like What Do You Mean? you’ll have the hook stuck in your head for the rest of the week.

Sorry is definitely too perfectly constructed to be some sort of experiment gone right, but whatever dance/house/pop formula he’s working with, don’t share that thing, it’s gold.
