Single Review: Charles Kelley – ‘The Driver’

1 min read

Embarking on a solo venture, founding member of acclaimed country trio Lady Antebellum, Charles Kelley is offering up The Driver as his first solo single. The track brings together Kelley with two other esteemed country crooners Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay. The Driver is a sweet little country ditty that sees Kelley draw on his experiences on the road and describes the sometimes hectic but undeniable worth he’s found in his touring life.

Charles Kelley The DriverThe trio of talented singer/songwriters each offer their vocals to a single verse before uniting in the powerful chorus. Kelley kicks off the track as ‘the driver’ setting a sombre tone before guiding you into the warming chorus. When all three voices come together is where the magic happens, it’s lines of warmth with emotions drawing you in serenading “let’s get loud, all the drivers and dreamers, believers and singers. Oh won’t you sing with me now?” while ‘the dreamer’ (Eric Paslay) has some pretty impressive lyrics too; “I’m the dreamer, soaking up every line, searching for truth all the time.” these are some of the ones that stick with you and really bring the track home.

The Driver is a song for everyone, whether you’re a driver, a dreamer or a believer it’s a track full of hope and kind-heartedness recounting the journey Charles Kelley has been on for 8 years.
